The Mediterranean Diet Feeds You and Your Microbiota

Diet significantly impacts the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, primarily through its influence on inflammation and gut microbiota.

The Western diet often worsens these conditions, while the Mediterranean diet is beneficial for both immune function and gut health, promoting a balance known as eubiosis.

This balance involves beneficial bacteria that help produce vital compounds like short-chain fatty acids, enhancing overall health. The broader dietary patterns, rather than specific nutrients, play a crucial role in influencing the immune system and preventing diseases linked to chronic inflammation and malnutrition.
