Part 9 Are Low Lymphocytes Aging You?

Lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, are crucial for fighting infections and facilitating adaptive immunity.

Aging reduces B and T lymphocytes, impairing the immune system's ability to combat infections and respond to vaccinations. This reduction in lymphocytes can lead to increased vulnerability to severe infections, immune compromise, and conditions like COVID-19.

Lower lymphocyte counts are also linked to cognitive decline, particularly in diseases like Parkinson's. Additionally, lymphocyte reduction is a marker of biological aging and frailty, with lower counts indicating higher morbidity and mortality risks.

Maintaining healthy lymphocyte levels through stress management, nutrition, and physical activity can enhance immune function and promote healthier aging.
