Lp-PLA2 Activity is Not Such a Good Activity

Optimal Takeaways

We find that not all activity is good, not if it is lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) activity. This activity is a reflection of increased oxidative stress, inflammation, atherosclerosis, and risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

An increase in Lp-PLA2 activity reflects an increase in the severity of atherosclerotic plaque and the chance that it can rupture. It may also reflect an increased risk of aortic stenosis and stroke.
