Histamine is Intolerable After a While

Histamine intolerance occurs when the body cannot effectively break down histamine, leading to symptoms like nausea, headaches, rashes, and digestive issues.

This can be due to a deficiency of the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO), which is crucial for histamine breakdown. Foods high in histamine, like fermented products, cured meats, and alcohol, can trigger symptoms.

To manage histamine intolerance, a low-histamine diet, avoiding certain foods, and supplementing with DAO enzymes may help. Genetic factors and certain medications can also impact histamine levels.
