Optimal DX stands out as one of the select companies that provide HOMA2 calculations for our users. For those unfamiliar, the Homeostatic Model Assessment (HOMA2) is a tool used to assess insulin resistance, sensitivity, and the risk of diabetes and forecast the progression of the disease.
Dr. Brad Rachman has been utilizing the software and incorporating HOMA2 calculations into his practice for many years. In the video below, he addresses a common question from practitioners who reach out to us puzzled by the HOMA2 results they receive.
Despite having patients with “optimal” fasting glucose, A1C, and fasting insulin levels, the calculated HOMA2-%B, HOMA2-%S, and HOMA2-IR scores are often unexpectedly high or low. These scores suggest issues with blood sugar regulation, which seems contradictory given their patients' otherwise optimal blood sugar metrics. They question the accuracy of these HOMA2 scores under such conditions.
Get settled, grab a pen and paper, and be prepared to take copious notes as Dr. Brad Rachman takes us on a journey to correct any misunderstanding about the HOMA2 calculation and its value in clinical decision-making:
