Eat well and walk away from NAFLD

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) affects about 1 in 4 people worldwide and is quickly becoming a leading cause of liver damage, including cirrhosis and liver cancer.

The most effective way to manage and improve NAFLD is through weight loss. Losing just 7–10% of body weight can significantly reduce liver fat, inflammation, and other signs of liver damage.

A combination of healthy eating, such as following a Mediterranean-style diet, and regular exercise—at least 150 minutes per week of moderate aerobic and resistance training—can improve liver function, insulin sensitivity, and overall metabolic health.

Research shows that combining diet and exercise is more effective than either alone. Maintaining a healthy weight through these lifestyle changes offers the best chance of improving or even reversing NAFLD.
