One of the questions I get asked all the time is how to convert an absolute count of an individual White Blood Cell (Neutrophil, Lymphocyte, Monocyte, Eosinophil, or Basophil) to the % value we use in the software.
The ODX software application has a built-in calculator that will automatically convert an absolute count of an individual White Blood Cell (Neutrophil, Lymphocyte, Monocyte, Eosinophil or Basophil) to the % value and enter them into the software. Enter the Total WBC count and the absolute values for the 5 individual WBCs and the software will calculate the % value for you.
It will also do it the other way around! Enter the Total WBC count and the % values for the 5 individual WBCs and the software will calculate the absolute value for you.

You can also do it manually:
It’s really quite easy because you are given the absolute count of the Total White Blood Chell count and can use simple math to get your percentage.
Here’s how:
Let’s say the total WBC count is 6.0 and the neutrophil absolute count is 3.1, what you need to do is divide the neutrophil count by the total WBC count and multiply by 100:
(4.2/6.0) = 0.5167
0.5167 X 100 – 51.67%
So 51.67% of all the WBCs are Neutrophils
Do this for all the other individual WBCs and you’ll have all their percentage values to add to the software
What about the other situation? Let’s say you have the percentage values of the individual WBCs and want to know their absolute count? Well, you know the Total WBC count as an absolute, so you just do the math the other way:
Let’s say the total WBC count is 6.0 and the neutrophil Percentage count is 51.67%, what you need to do is multiply the total WBC count by the neutrophil % count by and divide by 100:
6 X 51.67 = 310.02
310.02 / 100 = 3.102 or 3.1
So there are 6.0 WBCs in the sample and 3.1 of them are Neutrophils.
Do this for all the other individual WBCs and you’ll have all their absolute counts!
